There are quite a few trails south of Atlanta. Although this page says South Georgia Trails, the description is somewhat loose as South Georgia is a little too far to travel within 2.5 hours of Atlanta. Your best hiking spots are Pine Mountain near FDR State Park and Providence Canyon State Park.
