Visitors are amazed at the breathtaking colors of Georgia’s “Little Grand Canyon.” The red and purple hues of the soft canyon soil, make a beautiful natural painting at this unique park. Visitors can enjoy views of the canyons from the rim trail, and can also venture into the canyon to experience a truly unique perspective. A visitor center explains how the massive gullies (the deepest being 150 feet) were caused by erosion due to poor farming practices in the 1800s.

We will be hiking in and out of the nine different canyons and also on the rim. While we are in the canyons we will frequently be hiking in a creek bed. Your feet may get WET if you don’t have waterproof shoes. It is recommended that you wear hiking boots on this trail because of the wet areas. You should bring a change of shoes/socks and a plastic bag to put your muddy shoes into after the hike.

Things to bring:

– Daypack / Backpack
– Water 1.5 to 2 liters
– Trail snacks / lunch
– Good hiking boots or shoes
– Plastic bag to put muddy shoes in after hike (bring another pair of footwear)
– Hiking stick / Camera
