Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park is a 2,923 acre National Battlefield that preserves a Civil War battleground of the Atlanta Campaign. Opposing forces maneuvered and fought here from June 19, 1864 until July 2, 1864. Although most famous as a Civil War battlefield, Kennesaw Mountain has a much richer story.
This is a great beginners hike which is close to Atlanta. There is a fairly steep climb to the top of Kennesaw Mtn at the beginning of the hike and also a smaller climb up Little Kennesaw Mtn partway through the hike. There are great scenince views and interesting rock formations on this hike.
We will be hiking a 5.5 miles loop from the Visitor Center to Pigeon Hill. After the hike we will spend a little time touring the Visitor Center.
If we have time we may stop in Marietta and visit the Australian Bakery on the way home 🙂
