Difficulty: D3-D4
Carpool Time: 7:30 AM at Intown (Driving Time: 2 hour 15 minutes)

Hike Leader: Peter de Lastic (770-880-2966)

This hike is limited to 20 people.

Please note this is D3-D4 level hike due to distance and elevation changes. The hot summer temperature and humidity also makes it challenging. It is not suitable for young children. It is also mountainous and prone to thunderstorms. Last year we got caught in one that lasted 2 hours.

Three Forks is the confluence of Holcomb Creek, Overflow Creek and Big Creek to form the West Fork of the Chattooga River. The three creeks and the West Fork are part of the Chattooga Wild and Scenic River, the only area in Georgia with this designation. The trail to Three Forks is through dense forests and although it is steep the last half mile of three-plus miles on an old logging road, it is well used and easy to walk. The area is remote, beautiful, very impressive and well worth the trip.

The trail first will take us to the Three Forks cascades where we will have lunch. On our return we will take a 2 mile detours to the 15 foot rugged Overflow Falls, with a huge swimming hole beneath.
