Hike Leader: Rony
The Laurel Ridge Trail explores the bank of the Chattahoochee River, climbs low foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, and ventures into coves claimed by Lake Lanier. In the first half mile of the trail there are several long-distance views of Buford Dam and Lower Pool Park. Atlanta’s growth created demand for two fundamental commodities—water and electrical power. Starting in 1950, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers built Lake Lanier to fill these needs. The Laurel Ridge Trail explores the southern end of the lake, climbing through foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains and exploring coves that are now claimed by the lake.
We will hike the trail and then stop for a swim at the lake beach area. This is an easy beginner’s hike.
